Substance Use
Many of us struggle with finding healthy ways to adjust to life’s hiccups.
While some are able to roll with the constant day to day changes, others may find difficulty in overcoming obstacles presented to them.
There are many variables that can lead someone to problem drinking and (or) drug use. Some contributing factors may include environmental, social, familial, trauma, grief, depression, or anxiety. Understanding the complexity of addiction can be very cumbersome, but you do not have to do this alone!
In our work together, we will develop a deeper understanding of the thoughts and emotions behind continued use, and identify triggers and coping skills so that risk for relapse is reduced.
If you are unsure if your drinking or drug use has become a problem, and are looking to explore healthier and safer ways to resolve issues that might be fueling your use… then let’s connect and get the right supports in place.
Multicultural Concerns
Cultural influences can have a significant impact on ways in which mental health is perceived and the decision to seek help.
People within various ethic groups may find difficulty in utilizing mental health services for a multitude of reasons. Reasons may include limited access to healthcare, stigma associated with mental illness, or challenges with trusting and finding a therapist who is knowledgeable about disparities in ethnic communities.
Some issues that may arise in therapy are unaddressed depression, anxiety, trauma, systemic racism, emotional fatigue, and multi-generational dysfunction. By having an understanding of challenges ethnic minorities face, our therapists am able to provide counseling in a way that connects with you and is respectful of your experiences.
